Jux’d Playing Cards
Jux’d is a brand new set of playing cards designed by Neil DeGraide of Dirt Poor Robins and artist, James Flames. Although the deck is designed to play any standard playing card game, (through added elements of symbolism and design to the artwork) we are now able to introduce new games with more dynamism.
We will be releasing a new game once a month for the next three months. Here is the schedule that is on the calendar so far.
GAME 1 - Jux’D the Game Official Rules - 2 Players
Jux’d is the flagship game for the Jux’d deck of Playing Cards. With easy to learn rules and simple game mechanics, anyone can get up and running to play within a few minutes.
Jux’d the game will also introduce you to one of the unique features essential to our deck - flippable face cards. Within the artwork, each of the face cards has a Fire and Water side which can be turned 180 degrees to change the meaning and effect of the card.
The goal of Jux’d is to use favorable odds, memorization, subversion and instincts to collect more cards than your opponent.
Let get to it….
REQUIREMENTS for the two player game
Requires one deck of Jux’d playing cards with the Jokers included.
A flat surface for game play
SETUP
Shuffle the entire deck well (including Jokers)
Deal 4 cards to each player
Place remaining cards in a stack between the two players.
The GAME
In Jux’d, the Jokers are the highest and lowest cards in the game. The Blue Joker (Water) is the lowest and the Red Joker (Fire) is the highest.
Aces count as 1 (they are the lowest value cards in the deck aside from the Blue Joker)
Successfully playing a Joker at anytime will end the round.
When a Water card is played, the next card played must be the same or lower in value.
When a Fire card is played, the next card played must be the same or higher in value.
Non-Face Cards
Black numbers (Spades and Clubs) are Water cards
Red numbers (Hearts and Diamonds) are Fire cards
Face Cards (kings, queens and jacks) can be played as either Fire or Water by choosing which side faces your opponent when laying it down.
The GAME PLAY
The dealer deals 4 cards to each player
The first player lays down a card.
If the first player plays a Face card, they must choose which side of the card will face the other player - Fire or Water.
If the first player plays a Water card, their opponent must play a card equal to or lower than the value of that card. If they play a Fire card, the player must play a card equal to or higher than their opponent’s card.
Players alternate placing cards down until they are out of cards or cannot play (i.e. nothing higher than or equal to the Fire card their opponent last played or anything equal to, or lower than the Water card their opponent last played)
The winner of the round is always the last player to successfully play a card.
Once the round is over, set aside any unused cards in player’s hands in a Reserve Deck.
Cards played during the round are kept by the winner of the round in a separate pile to be scored at the end of the game.
Repeat for each round, alternating the dealer each time.
As the game progresses, the Reserve Deck will grow and the original stack of undealt cards will diminish. Once there are no longer enough cards in the original stack to deal each player 4 cards, combine it with the Reserve Deck and reshuffle to continue play.
The game is over when there are no longer enough cards to deal 4 cards to each player.
When the game has ended, players will count their pile of captured cards. The player with the most cards wins.
